  • Even if you are not drinking, if you�''re around people who are drinking, you have an increased risk of being seriously injured, involved in car crashes, or affected by violent behavior; at the very least, you will have to deal with drunk people that are out of control and unable to take care of themselves.
  • Codependency is the tendency to interact with another person in an excessively passive or caretaking manner that negatively affects the quality of the codependent individual's life.
  • College aged students that were heavy drinkers reported a much higher likelihood of recognizing the symptoms of alcohol poisoning in another student and providing the necessary assistance; students who are not familiar with the effects of alcohol may not recognize that help is needed.
  • Brain scan studies suggest that the brain anatomy of an alcoholic begins to return to normal within six months of abstinence; however, cognitive function has not always been reported to return when the brain scans appear normal.
