- Research suggests that women who drink alcohol while pregnant are more likely to have a baby die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This risk substantially increases if a woman binge drinks during her first trimester of pregnancy.
- In 2009, the Monitoring the Future Survey reported that 37% of 8th graders and 72% of 12th graders had tried alcohol, and 15% of 8th graders and 44% of 12th graders drank during the past month.
- A warning sign of alcohol dependency includes the inability to remember some of the events of the previous evening or feeling anxious in a social situation where there is no alcohol.
- An individual who reaches for alcohol every day as a way to relax or as a way to self medicate or to relieve stress is at risk for developing an alcohol addiction; an example of this is the individual who has a drink every time they have an argument with their spouse or boss.
