  • The legal limit for drinking is the alcohol level above which an individual is subject to legal penalties such as being arrested, or the loss of a driver's license; in many states, driving while intoxicated can lead to mandatory jail time.
  • Blood Alcohol Level of .30%: You're in a stupor. You have little comprehension of where you are. You may suddenly pass out at this point and be difficult to awaken. (But don't kid yourself: Passing out can also occur at lower Blood Alcohol Levels. But, at lower blood alcohol levels, you may decide you've had enough to drink and go "pass out." With an alarming Blood Alcohol Level like .30%, your body will be deciding to pass out for you.) In February 1996, an 18-year-old student died of alcohol poisoning with a BAL of .31% after attending two parties the night before.
  • Excessive alcohol use is commonly involved in sexual assault. Impaired judgment caused by alcohol may worsen the tendency of some men to mistake a womens friendly behavior for sexual interest and misjudge their use of force. Also, alcohol use by men increases the chances of engaging in risky sexual activity including unprotected sex, sex with multiple partners, or sex with a partner at risk for sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Environmental factors have been reported to be one of the main causative factors that are related to alcoholism, but, the person must first choose to drink alcohol for this condition to have the chance to occur.
