  • According to a current report from the U.S. Task Force on Community Preventive Services, there is little evidence that designated programs actually reduce the rate of drunk driving and alcohol-related crashes, as few designated drivers actually completely abstain from drinking. The report concluded that in a great many instances, the least-intoxicated person is chosen to be the driver, which defeats the purpose of the program.
  • Infants born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome have: smaller heads and brains, some degree of mental retardation, poor coordination, hyperactivity and abnormal facial features.
  • Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are due to a wide array of factors, including genetics, how you were raised, your social environment, and your emotional health.
  • Symptoms of alcohol dependence include but are not limited to memory lapses after heavy drinking, requiring greater amounts of alcohol to feel "drunk", experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms when you haven't had a drink for a while and experiencing alcohol-related illnesses such as alcoholic liver disease.
